Your Guide to Platelet Power Points
WHAT IS THE PLATELET POWER POINT PROGRAM?
Platelet Power Points is our way of giving back to our dedicated platelet donors for their lifesaving donations. Every time you donate platelets, you’ll earn points that can be used to redeem rewards in the Hoxworth Donor Store.
And the best part? There’s no sign-up required! Once you make a qualifying platelet donation, you’re automatically enrolled in the program.
HOW IT WORKS?
- Schedule your platelet donation!
- Donate platelets & earn points - Once you complete your platelet donation, you'll automatically receive 800 points. No forms. No extra documents. Just donate and earn!
- Build your points or redeem - You can save your points and work toward a reward, or redeem them when you're ready. Visit the Hoxworth Donor Store, choose a reward that works for you, whether it be an e-gift card or a Hoxworth swag item, and use your points to "purchase" it.
WHEN WILL I GET MY REWARD?
Once you redeem your points, your reward will be prepared for you based on how you donated:
- Your redeemed item will be mailed to you and you can expect it to arrive in approximately 3–4 weeks.
- If you redeemed an E-Gift Card: No matter where you donated, e-gift cards will always be delivered to your email within approximately 3–5 business days.
Did You Know?
- A platelet donor can give every 14 days. The automated process separates the platelets from your red cells and plasma - returning your red cells and most plasma back to the donor.
- Platelets only have a shelf life of 5-7 days, meaning they are transfused for a local patient almost immediately after each donation.
- Platelets are essential for preventing excessive bleeding in patients undergoing cancer treatment, surgery, organ transplants, and those with blood disorders.
- Hoxworth needs at least 50 platelet donors each day to meet the demand of local hospitals.
A typical platelet donation takes roughly 90 minutes from start to finish, and platelet donors are eligible to give every two weeks. Platelet appointments are available seven days a week at Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers located in Anderson, Blue Ash, Clifton (Central), Ft. Mitchell KY, West Chester (North), Tri-County, and Western Hills (West).
