Essential Functions – Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements
1. Continuous standing, walking, bending, reaching overhead, crouching, grasping items.
2. Repetitive use of hands, fingers, arms, legs
3. Occasionally lifts and carries objects that weigh 26 to 50 pounds.
4. Exposure to biological hazards, chemicals, and sharp objects.
Perform complex laboratory procedures, which include preparation of red blood cells platelet concentrates, plasma and cryoprecipitate from volunteer whole blood collections; leukocyte reduction procedures of blood and blood components; irradiation of blood and blood components; freezing and deglycerolizing of red blood cells; pooling of cryoprecipitate and platelet concentrates; eBDS sampling of platelets; process hospital blood component orders.
The ideal candidate must be able to work a flexible work schedule which may include 3rd shift, weekends, and rotating on-call responsibilities; demonstrated work history of the skills and experience necessary to complete the job duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; -OR- Associate degree with two (2) years experience; -OR- four (4) years experience. Degree must be in biological science or related field. Experience must be related.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Advanced
Major responsibilities and duties
The AABB and FACT-accredited Cellular Therapies Laboratory of Hoxworth Blood Center is seeking a lead technologist to perform routine and complex cell processing procedures for standard of care and clinical trial activities in support of three local bone marrow transplant programs and to assist with new product development and process improvement objectives. Responsibilities include process validation, process development, SOP writing, and staff training, in addition to staying proficient and performing all cell processing procedures on an as-needed basis. This position will serve as a technical resource for staff and clinical site customers and will assist the Operations Manager with staff supervision as needed for vacation coverage.
This position requires a strong commitment to quality patient care, excellent technical skills and knowledge, and good oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and SBB (ASCP) or CHS (ABHI), Bachelor’s degree and MT (ASCP), BB (ASCP) or CHT (ABHI), with two (2) years of laboratory-related experience; -OR- Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field with three (3) years or laboratory-related experience
