Did you know that the
best way to ensure that the patients in our local hospitals have the
blood products they need is to target your donations? All donors
from Monday, February 4 through Friday, February 29, 2008
will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a $125 gift card
from Target!
Four (4) lucky donors will be selected - one
winner each week! Here's how you can target your donation: - In addition to your regular donations, Hoxworth recommends giving during the times of the year when the blood supply is traditionally low; such as before or after major holidays and during the winter and summer months. - One in 500 African-Americans has sickle cell disease and some receive frequent blood transfusions. Sickle cell patients respond best when they receive blood that more closely matches their own. This blood comes from other African-Americans. Donating frequently ensures that we have the blood we need to target towards specific patients. Hoxworth encourages all donors to give every eight weeks for whole blood, sixteen weeks for double red cells and every two weeks for platelets. - If you have either A or AB blood types, you can target your donation by giving platelets. Platelet donations are used for burn victims, cancer patients, and surgeries. Due to recent advances in the treatment of these serious illnesses, the demand for platelets is growing dramatically. If you are interested in becoming a platelet donor, please let us know at your next visit. Visit our Donating Platelets page to learn more. - If you have either O or B blood types, you can target your donation by giving Double Reds. This special type of donation allows you to give two units of red blood cells in just a single donation event. Donors must meet specific requirements to give Double Reds. Visit our Donating Double Reds page to learn more. How to Donate: Please call (513) 451-0910 or (800) 830-1091 to schedule an appointment at a neighborhood donor center. To locate a community blood drive or if you are a registered donor and want to schedule online, please visit our Donate Now page.
