Type A Donors Still Needed

(June 12, 2008) - Hoxworth Blood Center is continuing their appeal for donors of blood types A positive, O negative and B positive.

As of this Thursday morning, the community’s blood supply was down 212 units in type A positive. (one unit = one pint)

“Without a strong response from donors, units from different, compatible blood groups will need to be utilized in lieu of units with the matching blood type of the recipient.  This further stresses and depletes overall inventory needed to support the community.” says Hoxworth spokesperson Alecia Lipton.

(June 10, 2008) – Hoxworth Blood Center is asking for all eligible group A positive, B positive and 0 negative donors to make an appointment to donate blood at their earliest convenience.

This shortage is due to multiple traumas over the weekend, coupled with supportive care for patients. Blood donations are desperately needed to maintain minimum inventory levels in order to meet the needs of patients in our 29 hospitals.

All donors who give today, Tuesday, June 10 at a neighborhood donor center will receive a Free Sunlite Pool and Classic Rides Combo Ticket to Coney Island.
