Hoxworth Blood Center Honors Volunteers
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati hosted the Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Saturday, April 17th. The event was held in the Champions Club at Great American Ball Park and featured guest speaker, Greg Rhodes, Hall of Fame Historian for the Cincinnati Reds.
“The Hoxworth Blood Center Volunteer Program is in its 25th year of service. “The center would not be able to operate without the countless hours and dedication of our volunteers” said Hoxworth director, Dr. Ronald Sacher. “Today, we pay tribute to our volunteers who gave 21,860 hours of service during 2009.”
Volunteers at Hoxworth help in a variety of ways from working on clerical duties, serving as greeters and host at our Neighborhood Donor Centers and making pick up and deliveries from mobile blood drives. “People who volunteer their time for others understand that we are connected to the fabric of family, our communities and society” reports Helen Williams, Director of Volunteer Services. “Our volunteers are such an integral part to Hoxworth that we wouldn’t be able to have the same quality of service if it wasn’t for their time and talents that they give.”
The luncheon culminated with a standing ovation for Mr. Ralph Vanderman who received an award for completing 7,455 Volunteer Hours with Hoxworth Blood Center.
