Give Blood...Play Hockey!

On Wednesday, January 6, 2010 Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati has partnered with the Cincinnati Cyclones to host a community blood drive.  The drive will be held at U.S. Bank Arena between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm.  Parking is free at the Public Landing, Mehring Way and the U.S. Bank Arena Parking Lot.

All donors will receive a voucher for free admission to a Cincinnati Cyclones Hockey Game!  Plus each donor will receive a coupon for a free personal size pizza from Donatos and bottled water from Pepsi.

“We encourage all Cyclones fans to join us at U.S. Bank Arena and give the Gift of Life through blood donation” states, Chuck Weber, Cyclones Head Coach.  “We know that our fans are always helpful, caring and responsive and they will step up to meet the needs of patients in our community”.

Appointments to donate blood are recommended.  Walk-ins are always welcome. 

The minimum requirements to give blood are:

•Age: At least 17 years old and in good general health. (* 16 years old with signed parental consent).

•Weight: Minimum of 110 pounds.

•Identification: Must provide photo I.D.

•Food: Eat a good meal a minimum of four hours before giving.

•Drink: Drink plenty of water or juice before and after donating.

How to Donate:

Donating blood is safe and easy. You must be at least 17- years-old (16-years old with a signed parental consent) and in good health. You must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is on a campaign to recruit 100,000 Donors, 100,000 Heroes. Founded in 1938, Hoxworth serves 32 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana.  Annually, Hoxworth collects over 90,000 units of blood from local donors.  At least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors are essential each day to keep up with the demands of tri-state hospitals and their patients.
