Urgent Need for Type O Blood Donors
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati has an urgent need for all type O blood donors and specifically a critical need for O negative donors. All type O donors are encouraged to make an appointment at their earliest convenience.
“Hoxworth is faced with a critically low inventory of O negative blood which is the result of increased usage and the unfortunate decrease in donations”. Hoxworth spokesperson, Alecia Lipton says “We are requesting that all eligible group O donors make a donation this week so that we can maintain a safe inventory level for our 32 area hospitals.”
Hoxworth operates nine neighborhood donor centers in Anderson, Blue Ash, UC Medical Center, Downtown, Ft. Mitchell, Ft. Thomas, Mason, Tri-County and Western Hills. In times of shortages, walk-ins are always welcome.
How to Donate:
Donating blood is safe and easy. You must be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health. You must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.
Please call (513) 451-0910 or (800) 830-1091 to schedule an appointment at a neighborhood donor center. To locate a community blood drive or if you are a registered donor and want to schedule online, please visit www.hoxworth.org and click Donate Now.
