Area Blood Supply at Critical Level
Donors needed to replenish group A positive, A negative and 0 negative blood inventory

CINCINNATI (April 22, 2008) – Hoxworth Blood Center is asking for all eligible group A positive, A negative and 0 negative donors to make an appointment to donate blood at their earliest convenience. “Hoxworth continues to struggle with a low inventory of group A and 0 negative blood, which has lasted since February. This shortage has strained our ability to adequately supply our hospitals with the needed blood”, states Dr. Ronald Sacher, director Hoxworth Blood Center.

This request for blood donation is desperately needed to maintain minimum inventory levels in order to meet the needs of patients in our 29 hospitals. Hoxworth spokesperson, Alecia Lipton, says “The shortage of these specific blood groups has reached critical levels, and without the additional donations, it is unlikely that we will achieve an adequate inventory leading into the high usage of summer months”.

To remedy this shortage, Hoxworth Blood Center urges donors of all blood types to give at a blood drive or donor center this week to replenish the blood supply.
