Donors Needed Prior to Memorial Day Hoxworth Blood Center is hosting special blood drives to encourage donations before the Memorial Day holiday. The three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend can be very stressful on the blood supply. Major accidents and traumas can increase blood usage at local hospitals, while blood donations drop off considerably. Kings Island season ticket raffle All donors on Friday, May 25 will be automatically entered to win a Kings Island season pass. Two lucky donors will each win one pass. Each season pass is an individual adult Gold Pass and has a retail value of approximately $107. The Hoxworth bloodmobiles will be out in the community, making it easy and convenient to donate blood: Friday, May 25, Rookwood Commons - 11 to 5 Friday, May 25, Eastgate Mall - 11 to 5 Friday, May 25, Crestview Hills Towne Center - 11 to 5 Many of Hoxworth's donor centers will be open to accept donations. Click here for a complete list. Though appointments are not necessary to give blood, they are encouraged. To schedule an appointment, or for more information, call Hoxworth at (513) 451-0910. "The weeks surrounding the Memorial Day holiday are very difficult times for us to recruit donors," said Michael Anderson, spokesperson for Hoxworth. Many of our regular donors are busy with holiday-related events while businesses, churches and community groups do not want to host blood drives because their members are on vacation or spending time with family and friends. Donating blood is safe and easy. You must be at least 17 years old and in good health. You must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating. Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati Medical Center needs to collect blood from 350 blood donors and 40 platelet donors each day to keep up with the needs of tri-state patients. Hoxworth, founded in 1938, serves 27 hospitals in 17 counties in Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects over 90,000 units of blood from local donors.
