Platelets donors should not take aspirin, aspirin-containing products, garlic herbal tabs, ginkgo tabs, or ginseng tabs 48 hours prior to donating. Platelet donors should also not take any anti-inflammatory medications, such as Aleve, Motrin, Nuprin and Advil for at least 24 hours prior to donating. Tylenol is acceptable.

The requirements to give blood are: Age: Be at least 17 years old. 16 year olds may donate with parental consent Weight: Minimum of 110 pounds. Identification: Must provide photo I.D. Food: Eat a good meal within four hours before giving. Drink: Drink plenty of water or juice before and after donating.
About Hoxworth: Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati is on a campaign to recruit "100,000 Donors. 100,000 Heroes." Founded in 1938, we serve 32 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects over 90,000 units of blood from local donors. At least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors are essential each day to keep up with the demands of tri-state hospitals and their patients.
