Cool off with a Cone

The first 100 donors receive a coupon for a FREE ice cream cone from Graeter’s

Graeter’s Ice Cream will reward the first 100 blood donors on Friday, August 22nd. Donate blood at any Neighborhood Donor Center or Community Blood Drive and you can Cool off with a Cone, compliments of Graeter’s Ice Cream. Every donor will receive a coupon to redeem at an area Graeter’s store.

Maximize Your Donation:

  • Bring a friend, family member or co-worker to make a blood donation.
  • Maximize your blood donation by making a Double Red Cell donation.
  • In addition to your regular donations, give before or after major holidays and during the winter and summer months.
  • Donating frequently ensures that we have the blood we need to support our 29 area hospitals. Hoxworth encourages all donors to give every eight weeks for whole blood, sixteen weeks for double red cells and every two weeks for platelets.
  • If you have either A or AB blood types, you can boost your donation by giving platelets.

Appointments to donate blood are recommended. Please call (513) 451-0910 to schedule your appointment or visit www.hoxworth.org. Walk-ins are always welcome.

The requirements to give blood are:

• Age: At least 17 years old and in good general health. There is no upper age limit.
Weight: Minimum of 110 pounds.
Identification: Must provide photo I.D.
Food: Eat a good meal within four hours before giving.
Drink: Drink plenty of water or juice before and after donating.

Hoxworth is now offering free cholesterol screening tests to all blood donors. The non-fasting total serum cholesterol level test will be part of all successful blood donations, and is intended to be a screening only. Hoxworth is offering the free tests at all blood collection sites, including the nine Greater Cincinnati neighborhood donor centers and all bloodmobile operations. Donors can obtain the results of the screening three days after the blood donation, by phone only. Hoxworth will provide each donor at the time of donation a unique ID number and phone number to call.

About Hoxworth:

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, is celebrating 70 years of saving lives. At least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors are essential each day to keep up with the demands of tri-state hospitals and their patients. Founded in 1938, we serve 29 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects over 90,000 units of blood from local donors.
