Donate Today! Appointments to donate blood are recommended. However, we also accept walk-in donors on a first come, first served basis.
How to schedule: First time donor? Click here for detailed requirements...more>> **A registered donor is one who has donated with Hoxworth Blood Center and has received a donor ID card.
Where to donate: Hoxworth needs to collect blood from 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors each day to keep up with the needs of tristate patients. We regularly have shortages in O type blood. Since type O is the most common blood type, hospitals use it more than any other blood type. Approximately 44% of the population is either O+ or O- (38% O+ and 7% O-). If you don't know your blood type, there is a good chance you have O type blood. Platelet donation (apheresis) is always needed, too. Platelets aid in the clotting process to prevent or stop bleeding, and are vital in helping a patient with leukemia or other cancers. Platelets have a shelf life of only five days. WIKIPEDIA Definition of blood donation...more >> Copyright © 2007
