Hoxworth Blood Center Volunteer Services

Volunteering your time at Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) is a great way to meet new friends while providing a service to our community.  HBC is currently recruiting energetic people to volunteer at community blood drives and at our nine Neighborhood Donor Centers.

Whether you're a high school or college student, a recent retiree, or a former blood donor who still wants to help...we have a need for you!

Here are some of the ways that you can help:

Blood drive hosts - Volunteers are needed for various donor-related tasks including greeting blood donors, helping them with registration paperwork, discussing different types of donation options, and assisting them though the entire blood donation process.  Our blood drive hosts serve as liaisons between donors and HBC by communicating our appreciation for their donation and encouraging donors to make blood donation a life-long habit.

Occasionally, a donor may require additional help after they have left the collection area.  Our blood drive hosts play an important role in alerting the collection staff when such an occasion arises.  Most often, this occurs when our donors are in the canteen area, an area staffed by our blood drive hosts.

Blood drive hosts can be assigned to one of HBC's eight Neighborhood Donor Centers or on mobile drives. Mobile drives are blood drives that are held inside companies, schools, churches, etc.

Couriers - Volunteer drivers pick up blood collections from Neighborhood Donor Centers and mobile drives and also deliver blood to area hospitals.

Clerical Support - Volunteers assist various offices of the blood center. The clerical work may include any of the following: assisting with bulk mailings, updating databases in the computer, filing, and sewing.
